Traitor To The Democrats, Hero to Republicans

So Sen. McLeary is a Republican. That was pretty simple. Yesterday at this time he was a Democrat.
What a difference a day makes.
I used to cover him when he was the football coach at UT Martin. That was a long time ago and if my memory isn’t failing me he wasn’t a great interview, or coach for that matter but he was always nice to me.
It will be very interesting how his voting base of democrats will treat him during the next election. I think anytime someone jumps from one party to the next there is a hint of the Scarlet A embedded on their chest.

Here is a little background when he initially won back in 2002 from the Humboldt Chronicle.

McLeary won 27,663 votes to 23,018 and will serve a four-year term beginning Jan. 14. The position pays $16,500 a year. McLeary, 54, was an investment executive with Union Planters Bank and former football coach at UT Martin. His campaign theme was “responsibility, accountability and results.” This is his first political office. McLeary won 56 percent of the Gibson County vote, 7,897 to 6,223.

Will his new Republican status change some of this. Undoubtedly. Will he win again? Who knows?
We will have to wait and see.

Sharing Is Caring (0)

  1. Can he do that? Get elected under one set of ideas then change to another set. Can this position be impeached?

  2. I guess so, although I don’t know about party trust on either side. Republicans are happy today and the Dems are probably mad as hell, but will either side truly trust him in the future.

  3. Interesting personal statement i.e. no one is doing anything about corruption on my side so I’m switching to the other side.

The BIG question to me is will this become more and more frequent i.e. I don’t like the girl that brought me so I’m going to dance with the other one?

  4. interesting observation, cobraman. I agree with you, which doesn’t happen often :)

  5. [...] I told you this would continue. [...]
