Actions Create Reactions

With Sen. Don McLeary jumping parties, democrats in West Tennessee are reacting. The Jackson Sun story today is quite revealing in regards to the disappointment and new resolve in unseating him in the next election. There is a lot going on with McLeary’s announcement on Friday. When I initially heard about it on Thursday, I called a couple of editors in Gibson County, who initially expressed surprise not about McLeary announcing he would jump to the Republican party, but that he actually was doing this at this period of time.
UT Martin professor and former candidate for governor Richard Chesteen, whose wife incidentally works at my parent company, says he is not surprised by the switch as “philisophically” McLeary was already embracing the Republican doctrine.
The thing is this, and it’s very simple. How is McLeary’s leap into his new-found party going to impact John Wilder. That is going to be the pressing question in the week’s ahead.
We will have to wait and see.
