Ramsey Talks Politics

More news on the governor’s race here in Tennessee. The Kingsport Times-News has an interview with Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Ron Ramsey.
He’s thinking no GOP competition against Gov. Phil Bredesen.
I found this interesting in the mindset right now in regards to the race:

Ramsey predicted it will be a tough year for Republicans to raise money for candidates with a three-man race in the U.S. Senate GOP primary and a GOP primary campaign to replace retiring U.S. Rep. William L. “Bill” Jenkins in Northeast Tennessee’s 1st Congressional District.

Ramsey isn’t running for Jenkins’ seat and isn’t endorsing any of the announced candidates.

“Usually in the Republican primary in Northeast Tennessee, you can’t get too conservative. That’s usually the way it works,” Ramsey said of the 1st District race. “Usually the one who has the most conservative message is the one who wins. … It will be up to the voters to decide who’s telling the truth and who is trying to get to the right to win the election.”

Ramsey’s said his focus in this election year will be for Republicans to hold onto their 18-15 majority in the Tennessee Senate. He narrowly lost a bid to become Senate speaker and lieutenant governor last year.
