I was a huge critic of Joe Lieberman during last year’s election. I still thought he was underhanded in the entire Ned Lamont deal, but he was voted in and voters stuck him back in office.
But I thought there might be consquences. And it seems I was right.
After the senator’s Nov. 7 victory under the Connecticut for Lieberman Party banner, John Orman switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Connecticut for Lieberman and voted himself chairman.
Orman, a political science professor who ran briefly against Lieberman last year, said only critics, bloggers and anyone named Lieberman can join the party, which he said would be a watchdog of the senator’s actions.
Lieberman will be one to watch going into the session of Congress. Some people might thing that he will be a rogue and a rebel because of his independent status.
But there was a sense of betrayal amongst his beloved democrats, and I think republicans, although they will wine and dine him to get his much needed vote on the Senate floor for pivotal bills, aren’t going to trust him.
I think Joe will continue to do what he has been doing and that is be true to Joe. He likes his pretty office in Washington. He’s proven he’ll do anything to keep it.
