Temporary Ink

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Groovy and Sexy | Posted on 05-01-2007

Yesterday, two members of the three folks who work on our insert crew were out of the office due to a rather nasty illness and for another, a funeral. As we have a limited budget (and few options sometimes), several of us went to the back and started stuffing papers. Now, in newspaper (especially small ones like us) inserts mean money.

Papers must be stuffed. Money pays the bills. I think you might be familiar with this concept.

So, with my sub-human superpowers, I proceeded to help (heck, the entire staff did at one point or another).I must say that it was actually quite enjoyable and we had gone to a new system to get the papers to the post office, so we all had to ponder on what it actually was that we were doing.

And after a couple of hours, the ink on my hands took a life of it’s own.hands.jpg

The Problem With Health Insurance

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Big Daddy and Hello Nurse | Posted on 05-01-2007

Big Daddy is going to the doctor on Friday for the second time. He isn’t better and he doesn’t feel good.

He hasn’t felt great recently so I’m hoping the doctor will either help him or send him to someone who will. His back has been hurting and being that he is not a complainer, I’m a bit worried. I’m a true believer that if you don’t feel good, you go to the person who can help you. Thus, go to the doctor. There is no reason to be in pain. I just wish everyone had the health care they needed, but paying for it hurts a lot of people. You know, some people need crazy things like food and shelter. Insurance goes by the wayside for those insane luxuries.

You guessed it correctly. He has to pay like a million dollars a month for insurance  since he retired a couple of years ago and Medicaid hasn’t kicked in, but he has to go through hoops before they will issue tests that will actually tell him what is wrong.

Thems the rules and they suck.

Insurance = Asshats and that’s the word of the day

And My Picture Skills Are Challenged (Are You Even Surprised?)

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Groovy and Sexy | Posted on 05-01-2007

I think this picture of my friend, Badger, is pretty cool. She is really interesting and has a distinctive look about her. Yeah, and what is award-winning Squirrelly trying to say. You talking to me. You talking to me. (My worst Travis Bickle imitation here, but it was fun.) But here is a better picture than mine.

*sigh* Darn it if this one isn’t good.

Curses to you, Squirrelly. (heh)

Back to my buddy, Badger.

Freaky Things

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Newscoma | Posted on 05-01-2007

Things that are kinda freaky:

  1. My dogs didn’t even notice when I came home. I was busy and got home late and they were in the bed with Homer and Squeegee Monkey. I had to go get them and that they didn’t yap and freak out when my presence hit the house which was disconcerting. I need to stay home more. It doesn’t always happen. And this was sad for me. I need to be home more often. And that I’m more than tired doesn’t help. I don’t think folks know how tired I actually am, but then again, when I play Mary Sunshine, that’s my fault now isn’t it.
  2. My partner at work is acting odd. She isn’t talking but being that we are pals I know this isn’t normal (well sorta normal, cause she keeps her cards to herself and doesn’t really share BUT …) . I’m honest. I hope she is as well. This is weird. I’m doing what I think is right, but I’m concerned  because I like her and she’s not acting normal for her. Squirelly isn’t a talker either, so I have to read Tarot Cards (like I know how) and try to read minds or just do the best that I can. It’s tiring. If she doesn’t tell me what’s really on her mind, then that’s a problem (not mine). Today she made a disparaging remark about blogging and it was harsh (and sort of mean). I reminded her I don’t blog from work  (And I don’t).  Even more sad that she has stood beside me on the blogging thing so positively and asked me to help her set up a blog so it surprised me (and irritated me because I didn’t deserve it. I think it was said out of the side of her mouth because she is unhappy (?), but it was still harsh.) I stood to the side while she was busy and waited to tell her when she was done that I don’t blog at work when she was through. It had to be said (again) because I knew it would be said eventually and it was (And it saddened me that it actually was said. Really saddened me). None of us have time and no one’s time is more important than anothers. Not hers. Not mine. Not our employees. It’s hard on all of us because times are tough  but we have to work together or we fall apart. And that I stand by.
  3. The Democrats have taken control and I dig it, but I get worried over this stuff when I’m not sure if they will make a difference because I do like them. I’m hoping they will do well. I’m not always so sure because politics tends to be just politics. (Don’t let me down Dems. I’ve taken a lot of heat for you.)
  4.  I hung out with the guys on the insert crew tonight which was a delightful surprise. It was more fun that you will ever know and I hope to do it again. They are hip and make the newspaper business fun.
  5. I just watched the Chappelle show and I was nostalgic.

So, now you know.

Freaky bits, but tomorrow is Friday and that is of the good.
