Jonestown Revisted

I’m sitting here watching the documentary “Jonestown: Paradise Lost” on the History Channel.

I was a  kid when the mass murder/suicide happened in Guyana and it frightened me for reasons that I could never really understand. I think now, I was most likely frightened that one man could create an environment like this where he had so much control, but it still amazes me to this day that out of  roughly 1000 people, only fifteen decided to leave that day with Rep. Leo Ryan.

And look at the price.

Most heartbreaking thus far has been the commentary from Jones’ own son, Stephen.

This photo was the one that appeared on the cover of Time magazine. I remember we had a subscription to it. I just couldn’t understand.

It totally freaked me out when I was 12 years old.

I don’t think I will ever use the term “drinking the kool-aid” again.

I remember that so well, and the weird feeling it gave me. Did you ever see the movie (with Powers Booth)? It still stuns me to believe that actually happened.
