The New Political Landscape

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Politics | Posted on 03-02-2007

The Power of the Tubes is once again going to play a big part of the political landscape.

At his first rally since announcing his presidential exploratory committee, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) appealed yesterday for support from the young people who had mobilized for the event online.

The gathering of several thousand students at George Mason University in Fairfax underscored the potential power of online communities in the 2008 campaign. Its genesis was a group created last summer on Facebook.com, a Web site frequented by college students who post profiles and assemble virtually.

Now I think I know what’s got some legislators wigging out.  They either need to figure it out instead of trying to squealch it. Obama is being very smart here, as Howard Dean was in 2003 when he started using the internet to campaign.  A random website on a politician doesn’t cut it, if you ask me. What we are getting here is a cyber dialogue.

And isn’t that what we want with our politicians? A dialogue?

I find it very interesting to watch this happening because this sort of campaigning is going to be the norm very, very soon.

Just A Reminder

There is a difference between a conversation and being yelled at a friendly gathering of friends.

Just saying in case any of you didn’t know that.

It won’t happen again.
