Hype Or Not

A world with a $100 PC?

Maybe some of you tech folks out there can tell me if this actual piece of equipment is hype or real.

Oh, it’s very real. If we give Africa and India an affordable computer, we could double the computing minds of the world in just a few short years. I want one of these things. The “MIT $100 Laptop Project” is an ambition attempt to make a laptop with WIFI capabilities for $100 USD. Current estimates have the project are around the $160 mark per unit, but that means the goal is in reach.

We can currently build a PC with landline internet access and uses a standard TV as a monitor for $50. Take this machine, add a web browser, and you instantly have a word processor and spreadsheet, instant messenger, and virtual hard drive storage. $50 is the max price. You’ll never have to buy software.

We are *this close* to the next computing revolution. We just need Africa and India to do it.

I hope this comes out, cause I can’t delete it.
