And A One… And A Two
Posted by newscoma | Posted in Bloggers, Groovy and Sexy | Posted on 07-03-2007
Okay, it was a blow out at Murphy Center. The final score was 53 – 28 so tonight I’m going to the Sportsman’s Grille in Nashtown around 8 p.m. to just hang out.
Come one, come all. Please do not comment on my attire. We had hotel issues so … okay, just Shut Up. Squirrelly, the sports/photo/rodent lover is with me.
Tomorrow is my Day at the Legislature, so tonight I have to be a good girl. Stacey, you around. There’s a few things I’d really legitimately like to discuss. I’ll be in budget hearings.
But I’m in Middle Tennessee and I’m thinking if any of you guys want to hang out Friday afternoon (the game is early so we will be out.) Here’s the thing. I must have all the fried food that Toots serves and I might need to go to Liquid Smoke.
Anybody want to hang? I’ll be at Toots, I think.
Let me know. E-mail is on the e-mail page.
And Spammer Zombies, 800 spams in two days is really driving me nuts.

TSSAA Single A Game Where I happen To Be

I’m sitting here at the state tourneys following the Gleason Lady Bulldogs. That’s my job. Of the approximately 1000 people in Gleason, I would think at least 400 of them are here and the sky here at Murphy Center appears to be filled with orange, being that is their color.
There is a young man dressed as a Bull Matador, which I’m quite amused by from Gleason.
At the end of the first quarter Gleason led Forrest High from Chapel Hill 19-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Squirrel Queen is standing on the floor taking the required photographs and I’m just chilling although another reporter moved my computer and that didn’t settle well. Don’t touch ‘coma’s computer.
Anyway, as the clock runs down into the half, Gleason in leading 28 -6.

Libby, War and James Webb’s New Legislation
Posted by newscoma | Posted in A Nation At War, News, Politics | Posted on 07-03-2007
Lewis “Scooter” Libby was found guilty yesterday, but you guys know that. We know he was found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice.
There is much to say about Libby being found guilty, but the main thing, and this is my perception, is that it appears that he took the fall for so many people, but he’s the one who made a conscious decision to break the law. He was apart of the bigger picture and what a picture it is.
I first wrote about the Wilson/Plame situation in 2004 at the newspaper I work at long before I started Newscoma. We can go back for nearly four years and see the events that played out more so in the blogosphere than it did in mainstream news until just recently. We saw national media personalities tied into manipulating the political will of the few. We talk about the power of the people, but in this case, we saw what I believe was the corruption of power to garner public support for the war without regard.
They wanted a war, so when Wilson said “Whoa” they tried to discredit him by outing his wife. This is what I believe. The information he gave them may not have stopped the war, but it appeared to be dangerous to the White House.
There was something about Wilson speaking out that the big boys didn’t like at all so the dance began because the White House didn’t want any black marks before we headed to Iraq.
Yesterday, amidst all the hoopla, a friend of mine was meeting with a guy as we stopped for a few minutes to have a beer and talk with some other folks I know. He came over and said he was saying goodbye to his friend’s son who was also there and is in the army. This guy was going to be out of the military in 15 days.
But he’s headed for Iraq for his second tour this weekend. And his stint in the military has been extended for four months. He was supposed to get out in two weeks, but he’s not.
So we pontificate about the Libby trial making a difference, and I think it will in the long term, but that kid is headed back to Baghdad.
And it’s all a complicated, tied up web and although many will say that there was finally a Merry Fitzmas, it’s a hollow victory because kids are still going to war. Despite the political ramifications, despite the intense scrutiny right now on Dick Cheney and Pres. George Bush’s role in this mess, nothing has really changed except Bush’s poll numbers are hovering at the 30 percent mark.
We are still at war.
This morning, I went to read Juror 9’s account of being in the jury room. It’s a nine page opus but it is very compelling. You might want to see it to see how the process behind the scene went on.
And with all of this political fallout, this little piece of news was hidden in the midst of the Libby conviction:
Freshman Sen. James H. Webb Jr. yesterday introduced legislation to force President Bush to seek congressional authorization before using force against Iran.
And I think all of this is connected because it is our government and regardless of how we feel, it’s our country’s war (Although so many of us didn’t want it but weren’t heard) and although I can only hope our mainstream media and the White House do the right thing as we look ahead, we can’t go back and change anything.
But can we stop this from happening again?
Libby might go to jail for the law that a jury of his peers convicted him of, he will seek an appeal and Bush just might pardon him, but hopefully we have learned that hiding truths and not even discussing them or allowing the public to have a dialogue is very dangerous.
