The Home Town Team Wins, And I’m Whupped

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Northwest Tennessee | Posted on 10-03-2007

Well, the team from our county, Gleason, won the state championship in Murfreesboro.

It’s actually a nice feel-good story. The coach has been at the school for years and this is his third state championship. His daughter plays for him and is a freshman. The senior won Miss Basketball. The coach is recovering from a bout of thyroid cancer. The team, probably not his most talented, still worked cohesively together.

But here is the thing I dig the most. The entire town literally came and it was one of those nice moments from small town America. And there was something so nice about it all. And you know, nice isn’t bad. I thought earlier today, when Squirrelly and I were so tired and I was leaning toward grouchy, how this world is in such a dark place.

And then something like this happens where a community follows a team of players and they have a really good day and you get to witness unadulterated joy over something as simple as a basketball game.

That will be nice too.

What Do You Think About Anonymous Blogging?

What do you think about anonymous blogging?

Apparently a Florida newspaper has created a bit of a stir, according to Slash Dot. Here is another bit of the story. Here is another story between a blogger and a newspaper.

I talked about this to a fellow blogger briefly on Wednesday. When you have a particular politician issue a veiled threat against a popular Tennessee blogger and becoming so angry on line (I’ve been the target of this myself by others) it can’t help but make one pause. We all know what happened with SouthKnox Bubba (now known to the blogosphere at R. Neal over at Knox Views. That appears to have worked out very nicely, actually.)

People pretty much know who I am although I write under newscoma on the blog and I’ll tell you if you ask although my name is pretty much everywhere. But that also was my choice as well.

Sort of makes one think.

The story showed up in my Google Reader and I thought I’d share.

What are your thoughts?

The theme song from Cowboy BeBop performed live by The Seatbelts. The sax player blows the top off of the building proving you can combine big band, jazz and 70’s funkadelic.

Good stuff.
