Big Brother 8, And I’m Out

Big Brother is getting a lot of press about on how the manipulation from producers continues and the hate talk has reached huge highs, and I must say that I’m backing up. I’ve always had fun with the show for its trashiness, but now it’s going to a place that I don’t want to participate in. And, to be honest, when I’m hearing stuff about America’s Player, Eric, saying the father and daughter “twist” of Evel Dick and Danielle is incestuous, the hate speak about Jewish and Black people and just the whole nastiness of it all, I’m out.

Reality Blurred writes this:

When the houseguests do say terrible things like that, the live feeds and/or Showtime Too feed just roll—until they start talking about Diary Room manipulation. (Sometimes, those two things overlap, such as when Daniele revealed the Diary Room producer called Jen the c-word.) Why are Amber’s comments getting more press than other comments? I think it’s because she went on a long, two-part diatribe, and she was dead serious.

A website that has been up for years is also saying they are hanging it up because of the hate going on. I was surprised by this, but I must say impressed as well. Dingo’s Hamster Watch is also saying it will refund donations made to the site for their coverage of live feeds. The webmaster says this:

A line has been crossed

Regardless of what others have said in there, or what your opinion or mine is of them or what they’ve done or said, I hope most people would agree that Eric’s gone too far

I’ve tried to keep this site fun – which hasn’t been easy – albeit with a bite at times, and I acknowledge the complaints about my hypocrisy, lack of impartiality, wrong opinions, what have you – but they are my opinions and I’ve tried to base them on their behavior, without being hateful – also not always easy.. I’ve tried to stay away from the overly-controversial as there are other & better venues for that, and I just don’t want to go there

But the fact that Eric’s “playing for us” and has gone where he has in doing so is something I can’t overlook

He’s said a lot of things and so have most of the others.. verbal attacks are not forbidden and in fact encouraged in the rulebook if I recall correctly from a prior season reference.. when he called Zach a “child molester” several times a couple weeks back it was bad – I didn’t get video of that, but I do have two clips of him insinuating an incestuous relationship between Dick & Daniele.

Rick wrote about this last week, and I can’t help but agree with him. And former fan Blinders Off is also out.

I thought there was something suspicious when I watched it last night.

CBS added a “twist” to Big Brother this year. Eric is “America’s Player”— At 99 cents apiece, you can send text messages to assign him certain tasks over the course of the game. Some of those tasks, particularly over the last couple of weeks, have left him vulnerable. Votes weren’t adding up right, and Evel Dick, by far the smartest player in the game, accurately surmised that the “hinky” votes were being cast by Eric.

CBS is making a fortune off of this. And, to be honest, they are making money off of hate-filled vain people who have, as Dingo said, crossed the line.

And the ratings are higher than ever.

I’m out. And if this is supposed to be representative of America, I grieve for us. In England, the public revolted against racism and what went on in the house.

This country hasn’t.

Yeah, I know its a television show, but I don’t want my nieces to think this sort of behavior is acceptable just because they saw it on TV.

Yeah, I’m in a bad mood.

I mentioned to my wife last night how this year seems much nastier than prior seasons. Despite his nastiness, I have come to like Evel Dick over the past several weeks, especially because of his devotion to his daughter and his clear gratitude for getting another chance to have a relationship with her. I have always considered BB a guilty pleasure, so I’ll have to see how long I can hold out against all that guilt. I’m not yet ready to jump ship, but it could happen soon.

The funny thing is, I like Evel Dick as well although for all practical purposes I shouldn’t. What I don’t like is the new nerd herd, all of the negative, hateful things I’ve seen.
    It’s weird.
I do think Dick will throw himself on the fire for this daughter this week.
Eric may be CBS’s player, but he sure ain’t America’s with the vile stuff I’ve heard come out of his mouth.
I guess this is an experiment on editing to a large degree.

I had no idea all of this was going on! I’ve been watching the show since it started this season, but I haven’t seen any other content besides the actual CBS tv show.

I think it is disappointing that people on the show have said some of the things that they have, but you can’t really get too upset over it-CBS HAS edited quite a few of it out. I think the people show their ignorance by their comments, but you have to realize they are just people. I know that I wouldn’t want some of the comments I make in everyday living to be broadcast for all of America to hear. We can’t all be politically correct 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I realize the Big Brother cast signed up to be in the public eye 24-7, but they didn’t sign up to have to be politically correct. I’m not condoning their behavior, but I do think that everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, even if it is narrow-minded.

That’s a good point, Mari. And you are absolutely right that everyone is entitled to their opinions.
My problem is the “Jews are …..” and “Black people are …” sort of comments I’ve seen and also the whole incest thing was just way too far.

The CBS show has edited it all out and I didn’t expect them to be politically correct at all (they never are) but it has gotten so nasty and disrespectful that I’m taking aback.

I don’t mind people being assholes on these shows, it the hate talk that is driving me nuts.
But, you are right and when I wrote this post this morning, I was just so grossed out that Eric kept bringing up that Dani would be giving birth to Dick’s kid by the first part of next year (and didn’t drop it) I was just through.

You brought a good thought to the table and thanks.

I formed my opinion by the edited version CBS show of BB. I wasn’t about to pay money to watch the live feed. I didn’t know black people were being talked about, was it Amber? Her opinion about New Yorkers and Jews was broadcast on CNN. The opinions of others who spew HATE should not be given a platform that reaches millions. I do not know who the person was that said something about blacks, but for Amber her words were racist when she was talking about New Yorkers and Jews. The first thing she is going to say when she is interviewed about her remarks is that she is not racist, but tell it to the people she was referencing, I bet a silver dime they did not take it that way.

My main problem was how Amber and Jameka wore the Christianity banner and are the biggest hypocrites. Actions are louder and more powerful than words; IMO their behavior in Sunday’s episode towards Evel was not Christian like.

    It was Amber, Blinders.

I remembered something about racism in BBUK, and I asked Sarah about it. She said, “This year, a middle class white girl said something to a black girl that ended with ‘you nigger.’ She was chucked out of the house in a matter of hours. There was much scandal.”

Then again, on Celebrity Big Brother, they spent a lot of time mocking Shilpa Shetty (I think), saying stuff about how they didn’t want to eat food she’d cooked, and called her “Shilpa Poppadom.” Also somewhat racist, but nothing they got thrown out for. I think the language is what matters less than the racist thinking in this case.

That said, I hope Eric gets sent off just to be rid of the stupid experiment of America’s Player.

Take a guess, I agree 100% with you!! This year is getting a lot of attention because of Amber’s racist comments, so everyone is paying such close attention and listening for every negative comment made in the house. Alot of people have said things just as bad if not worse, they just weren’t being filmed for national tv. If you don’t want to hear it, then don’t watch it. There’s ALOT more on the show then just the negative comments by the houseguests. Thank you.

I actually started watching it again. I suck.
No more bitching I swear. :)

[...] We must entertain ourselves in Hoots. We make friendly wagers. I won (although I didn’t win the points system) last year by betting on Evel Dick. I quit watching it though because it just wore me out. [...]
