Fred Thompson Is Tall

True conversation:

A person that wishes to remain anonymous on this blog asked me a question. We will call him Henry as I’ve always thought Henry was a pretty groovy name.

Henry: “Who are you supporting for president?”

Me: “I haven’t decided yet.”

Henry: “Why?”

Me: “Because they are all just infighting right now. And, in a lot of ways, they are saying basically the same thing.”

Henry: “What about Fred?”

Me: “He flip-flops as much as Hillary Clinton does. And he’s avoided a lot of heat waiting as late as he has to announce. I guess my question is, does he not want to answer questions? But, I don’t think him announcing so late is going to hurt him though although I’m worried about the whole acting thing. Sometimes, I wish a Kennedy-like presidential nominee would just show up out of nowhere.”

Henry: (says nothing, looks a bit thoughtful)

Me: “I want to have some hope in my government, you know.”

Henry: (still looking thoughtful) “Fred is tall.”

Me: (sighing deeply)

Henry: “Have you ever met him?”

Me: “Yeah, like in 1994 when he brought the red pick-up truck here and won the Senate back in the day. He seemed pretty moderate. Now, I’m not so sure.”

Henry: “What was he like?”

Me: “He was charming. All politicians are charming, Henry. Well, except Dick Cheney. He’s terrifying.”

Henry: “Yeah, Dick Cheney really seems unpleasant. I like Fred on Law and Order.”

Me: “Yeah, he’s pretty good, I guess.”

Henry: “Was he tall?”

Me: (sighing even deeper) “Umm, yeah.”

And once again, I must say that folks really don’t talk about the issues.

Sharing Is Caring (0)

  1. I can’t think of the name Henry without either seeing Henry Rollins or Michael “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” Rooker.

  2. Jeebus Howard Price.

If height is a qualification, then my vote is for Trace Adkins for president.
    That mutha is TALL.

And I know whereof I speak, because at 5′11 3/4″, I rarely have to look up to anybody to talk to them.

Plus, he would have both the gun lobby AND the gun-control lobby on his side. And he could sing his answers at the press conferences.

Welcome to my world, the world of the recovering journo so disheartened by the political process that she’s ready to vote for a ponytailed country singer as leader of the free world.

  3. Haven’t we had enough badonkadonk-noticing presidents for a while, though?

  4. You know, I laughed at myself after I read this. I take your point, and agree. But the part of me that had the most lively reaction was “That mother really is tall…”

    Hands like dinner plates, too…

  5. I finally figured out who he looks like – those creatures in ‘THe fifth element’….

I fear too many people would be voting for the NBC character… and he’s using the same fear tactics for votes instead of using issues and I just don’t care for that.
Being short myself, tall don’t do squat for me, ha.

  6. One thought:

    “Tall is small.”

  7. I like him but will reserve judgment until we get a lot closer.

  8. LOL! This conversation reminds me of a scene from the movie While You Were Sleeping. A dinner conversation about actors and beef and who’s tall! Love it!

  9. [...] Fred Thompson is tall, Phil is not (but he’s not short [...]
