Scary Scenes #13-The Day After

When I was a kid, the movie “The Day After” scared the hell of of me. No, not because Steve Guttenberg was in it, but because no one knew that the bombs were coming.

I was a kid. It scared me.

A lot.

Incidentally, I know the special effects are cheesy. Didn’t matter.

Sharing Is Caring (0)

  1. I caught part of that one a few months ago on Sci-FI and ended up watching the whole thing, then the repeat to catch up on what I’d missed. It’s great.

  2. that really is terrifying. these are scary times that we live in. that’s way more horrifying then a guy in a hockey mass knifing a few kids on a camping trip. yikes yikes yikes…

  3. It sure is. I only saw glimpses of this movie as a child, mainly promos on ABC, but it still scared me to death. I remember having nightmares.

I still remember being at a red light at the intersection of Highway 70 and Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue one night with my (now late) mom when I asked her about The Day After. I asked her whether she thought a nuclear war would ever happen. She said no, and I was young enough that I took her at face value. I’m glad I did then, but I’d love to know what she was thinking when she told me what I needed to hear.

  4. It really is a scary thing to think about, especially in today’s world. When I was little, Dad was in the Air Force – I think we were number two or three on the nuclear target list during the Cold War. Hysterically, they trained us at school to hide under our desks in case of nuclear attack, then go inside, seal windows, shower, and wait until we got an all clear. Now thinking about it, we know how ludicrous that was. We’d have been vaporized. I love this series you’re doing, NC!
