Bill Richardson

January 9, 2008 - Author: newscoma - Comments are closed

I find this to be, although not surprising, kinda sad ’cause I liked Bill. I realize the pack is eating its own and there can only be one ’cause that’s what happens, but from I heard a lot of positive information the kids over at the local college. I heard them talk quite a bit about Bill Richardson.

But, I guess it’s too late because apparently Bill Richardson is throwing in the towel.

Richardson planned to announce the decision Thursday, according to two people close to the governor with knowledge of the decision. They spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the governor’s announcement.

The Richardson campaign would not comment on the governor’s decision, reached after a meeting with his top advisers Wednesday in New Mexico.

Richardson had one of the most wide-ranging resumes of any candidate ever to run for the presidency, bringing experience from his time in Congress, President Clinton‘s Cabinet, in the New Mexico statehouse as well as his unique role as a freelance diplomat. As a Hispanic, he added to the unprecedented diversity in the Democratic field that also included a black and a woman.

But Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama dominated the spotlight in the campaign, and Richardson was never able to become a top-tier contender. He accused his rivals of failing to commit to bring troops home from Iraq soon enough.

It’s that time where the pool gets a little hotter and some folks get out of the water.

And then again, that’s what happens.

I really like him, but his party has put all their eggs in Hillary and Obama’s baskets. He would make an awesome VP and future President. If they drag Gore out for VP, I’m going to scream.

  4. That is too bad. Richardson is one of the few good men left.
But just like the party allowed the press ti crucify Howard Dean when we needed him the most, so have they done to everyone except for Hillary and Obama.

Richardson was never given an even chance.

When, oh when will the Democratic party wake the fuck up and realize that the ones that get the least press are the ones we should be supporting?

With several key Senate retirements, Richardson has a better chance of picking up a powerful Senate seat from New Mexico this year. There was a lot of speculation about him punting the Presidential campaign for a Senate campaign back in the fall, but I think he at least wanted some national exposure and fundraising first. A Senate term is both longer and more influential than a Presidential term and if you will notice, most of the current front runners from both sides have Senate experience.

It’s like I said about him before, the right choice was so crystal clear that only the Democrats could fail to make it. Why oh why must they prove me right so often? Sigh.

Well the potential for veep or Secretary of State remains I suppose.
