Annoying Autobiographical Pause #245
I haven’t done a shout out to my family in awhile so I’m going to do it right now. I want to tell you about Homer and Squeegee Monkey.
I had a slight “issue” on Friday and was trying to process how to fix it. Homer, the voice of reason, listened to my concerns and just by listening and validating my voice, helped me fix it in my mind. Squeegee Monkey, who usually harrasses me as I was his little sister, also took a moment and listened and then commented on my dilemma. He had good ideas, helped me break down the pros and cons and then let me process things through with him.
Without judgment. And I felt hope, so safe and warm with these silly, lovely, wonderful humans who I spend my life with.
And here is my point. Whatever you may have, a family, your “designed” family (I think the term is urban now but I’ve just called it my family by design), a good friend, whatever, it’s good to talk things out when you get overwhelmed. Find those people that will tell you the truth, that will authenticate that what you feel is of value.
And it is. Feelings are funny things. They are encompassing, but they are also apt to change. Having people that love you help you through the muck is good. Open yourself to that.
Those folks will help you get out of the rut you might be in. The people that really love you will not just blindly agree with you. They will help you find the options you might not be able to find on your own.
I say this because I have a ton of wonderful people who don’t let me get away with crap, but are also there to love me through the hard times.
I let them. And that, my dear friends, is the hardest part. Letting folks know those weaknesses and giving them the power to love all of you.
And when it was all said and done, Squirrel Queen met me with a smile and a look of understanding. Words were not needed. And that, my friends, was enough.
And that is what is own my mind this morning.
We’ll get back to politics and Bigfoot in a bit.
