Edwards Out But Why?
January 30, 2008 - Author: newscoma - Comments are closedI’m sort of surprised that John Edwards decided to bow out. The cynic in me thinks there is more here than meets the eye as that’s usually going on with politicians. We see one thing, but other stuff is going on as well.
You never know.
In all honesty, I don’t know why he didn’t do any better. I was leaning heavily toward voting for him even though I knew he wasn’t going to get the stage in Denver.I thought he’d stick around and gather up a smattering of delegates and start brokering deals.
That’s how it’s usually done. Politicians wheel and deal.
I’m sort of surprised that Edwards didn’t do that. Or did we? Once again, you never know.
And that cynic is me is asking “What happened?” Because I think something did. Either personal or a deal down the line perhaps?
Not sure.
A member of my staff is a HUGE Edwards supporter and she is somewhat heartbroken although she is a realist as well. She liked him and every day I would get an update on him from her, something I rather enjoyed over coffee each morning. It’s the enthusiasm that she shared that brightened my morning. I wish I could have 1/4th of her energy and passion about this race, but I don’t.
And now we are down to four choices. Two republicans, two democrats…
It is what it is.

Anyone who believes in seeing this country reach it’s full potential is sad today.
The chances of being stuck with John McCain for four years just became that much more real. That’s not good, not good at all.
But, your suspicions are valid. I was going to write about but I thought I’d wait. Since you did, I’ll speculate…;)
Edwards’ staff used the word “suspend”. They did not use the word “quit’ or any other synonym. “Suspend” was exactly what they said and that’s the word Edwards used as well.
At the risk of wishful thinking, I think it’s ok to keep one eye open for now.

He ran out of money. That’s why they had to suspend the campaign.
You forgot Poland… I mean “Mike Gravel.”

I’ve been thinking about this all afternoon. We’ve now lost the last strain of decency in the sideshow known as the presidential election.
As JRE champions the poor, the disadvantaged, the working Jane and Joe, I hope he becomes our ambassador, fighting against the ruling corporatocracy, similar to Al Gore fighting Global Warming. What I find really sad over the past year, is that our society is just not ready to realize that the change we need to shrink the pay gap, stop predatory lenders, keep the manufacturers in this country and have them pay their workers a living wage, etc., needs to come from policy, not charity.
I had hoped our society was ready to recognize this, but too many just do not.
Well, he’s not the sexy name, thus he was never really electable. I imagine being associated with a losing campaign already put him behind the eight-ball. Plus, he’s not a Senator or anything at the moment, and former anything is never as sexy as current something. Just my guesses.
O.K. Here is my theory. I suppose this is just wishful thinking. He used the term “suspend” to garner long overdue medai attention. Since he has announced, the mainstream media has publicized him more than ever even highlighting his campaign stance. Maybe this is just a way of attracting more attention by the national media alerts that seem charged with Obama/Hillary discussion.
Since his name will still be on the ballot in all of the 22 Super Tuesday states, I have read many blogs on his site that tell of people that will still vote for him on Tuesday.
he has stated that he will not endorse another candidate by Tuesday and “tomorrow is another day” Hmmm … I hope that he will come out within the next two days citing that with the overwhelming response by his supporters, he must stay in the race as promised until the convention this summer, that would only be fair to his support group.
Just wishful thinking, but a very attention-garnering move has been played by Edwards. We shall see.

I find it interesting that he’s sitting on his endorsement too. Very smart.
I believe the reason he left before Super Tuesday is some new news about Elizabeth’s cancer.
She hadn’t campaigned in over a month, and as recently as this last Monday here in Nashville he said he was staying in through Super Tuesday.
She has stage 4 cancer, and I believe something changed.
I don’t have any inside info or anything like that on this, it’s just my feeling that’s what happened.
Sharon, I agree with you on this as well. That’s what my gut is saying.
Compassion, I think he’s being smart with this as well. Here in Hooterville central, all the folks that were for Edwards have said they are still voting for him. I don’t know what that means in the big picture but I know a lot of Edwards supporters.
