Sleeping
I don’t think there is anything as lovely at the state’s capitol in the morning. As I walked outside of the hotel this morning, Nashville was sleeping.
And it was so achingly lovely that I found myself, for a moment, losing my breath. I spent some of the earlier years of my life in this city and there are times I miss it. This morning was one of those times. It was just myself and the city of my youth. Where I fell in love once, found my voice, fell out of love and began the journey to where I am today.
Sometimes I miss this city.
And this morning was one of those times. I walked the couple of blocks around the buildings when traffic was non-existent before dawn and there was the illusion of it just being the city and me. Steam rising from the street was oddly comforting.
I walked on the grounds of the capitol and smiled. As a political junkie, it was nice to feel the history of the place without the static that accompanies it when those buildings are filled with the politicians and the people who keep it up and running.
Yeah, sometimes I miss Nashville. And sometimes I think Nashville misses me.

I love cities in the early morning. And this city certainly does miss you.
I want you to know I had a lot of fun last night. Thanks so much.
You are the bestest.
Hey, wait! That’s not fair! Memphis misses you more!
And we have THE RIVER to boot….
Coma I agree, I miss Nashville as well. Especially Green Hills and Bellevue.
Left, I want you to know that I love me some Memphis too.
Dan, I want you to know that sometimes it’s just an aching thing. Probably lost youth or something like that.
I do miss it though. I also miss being able to buy beer in a grocery store, a luxury I don’t have in Hooterville.
