The Trouble With Harry

Miss Graveley: How old do you think I am young man?
Sam Marlowe: Hmm… fifty. How old do you think you are?
Miss Graveley: Forty-two! I can show you my birth certificate.
Sam Marlowe: I’m afraid you’re going to have to show more than your birth certificate to convince a man of that.

And this is what I’m watching. The Trouble With Harry, where the spinster is Miss Graveley, who is freaking out because she’s … 42. Alfred. But then again, this was filmed 53 years ago when this was done.

Umm, I’m 42.

Yeah, I know.

George “Goober” Lindsey’s Film Festival

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Tennessee | Posted on 03-03-2008

I must tell Squirrel Queen as she has a George “Goober” Lindsey story that is, in a word, horrifying. Of course, he was fine but his “fans” sort of lost it. I think there could have possibly been violence (naah, I’m just kidding) but it was bizarre.

She really needs to come clean on Goober.

So, anyway, he has a film festival happening.

Goober(aka George Lindsey)from the Andy Griffith Show will be having his 11th annual film festival in a few days in Florence, Al on the UNA Campus. This years special guest will be the actor Billy Bob Thornton. I still laugh everytime I hear that name. Im sure Lindsey doesnt mind because it made him famous. But still how would you like to go around having people call you goober all the time. His website is www.lindseyfilmfest.com

Thanks to Turnbow for pointing this out as I can’t help but be amused and somewhat surprised that Goober has a film festival. But, if Billy Bob is going to be there, Groovy.

Oh, and this is great. I got the photo from there.

I love pop culture.

Mick Jagger And The Hells Angels

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Tennessee | Posted on 03-03-2008

Does anyone find this as bizarre as I do?

im00281.jpg

So let me get this straight. Hells Angels members had an assassination attempt hatched against Mick Jagger.

Here’s my favorite part of the CNN story:

Gang members hatched a plan to kill Jagger at his holiday home in Long Island, New York, the BBC claims. Their attack by sea was thwarted when a storm hit their boat, throwing the men overboard, the program says

How the hell were they going to kill him at sea? Were they going to throw sea monkeys at him?  They were thrown overboard? Why didn’t they just ride their hogs up to his house? I realize it was a different time then, but still …

And I release a bone-rattling sigh. (Of course, while I’m sorta laughing.)

Incidentally, although it doesn’t make a bit of difference, Mick tuns 65 this year. Whoa.

Lizard Man, Bad Movies and Angry Journalists

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Tennessee | Posted on 03-03-2008

A couple of links for you on this windy Monday afternoon.

Went to see The Other Boleyn Girl.  DO NOT see this movie if you have any in-depth knowledge of Tudor era history.  DO NOT see this movie if you’ve read the book.  It’s the cinematic version of Cliff Notes for Inaccurate English Reformation History.  A frackin’ Harlequin historical romance!  Beyond disappointing.  The real history behind this movie is so much better, read it instead.

It’s not my kind of movie because there aren’t any zombies or vampires in it as well as there isn’t any Simon Pegg because all movies need Simon Pegg in them, but with that said, I’m thinking that Missy needs to write movie reviews for a living.

That’s just awesome.

Sadcox has tagged me for a meme and said some nice things. Thanks dude. As you know, I dig memes and this one is where I’m supposed to think or something…

All-righty then. Let’s go …

** Post about the meme and link back to the person that tagged you.

** Go back to your archives and link to your five favorite posts.

Link One: must be about family
Link Two: must be about friends
Link Three: must be about yourself
Link Four: must be about something you love
Link Five: can be anything you choose

** Tag five other people (at least two must be new acquaintances so that you can get to know them better).

Okay, the first one is about my family. Let me think … I sort of like this one. Because who doesn’t want to get loved ones on video and put it on the Internet doing a dance with a Bud Light can sitting on the table at Thanksgiving.

Numero Two is about friends. Okay, let’s try this one then. The Stew Benefit was such a wonderful thing and I saw the best of people.

Link #3 – A post about me being kind of freaked out about silence. I know. I’m a ween.

Something that I love is four. Umm, okay.  ZOMBIES in Plan 9 From Outer Space.

And Number 5 is probably my Paula Deen post. I kind of just like it. I was in a good mood that day.

I’m supposed to tag some folks so we all can get to know them better.

I’m tagging Russ McBee because I love it when he writes about himself, Ginger, just because. Molly at Not in Front of the Children (a new one and I love it), Sharon Cobb  because I want to and Holly Wynne, because she’s good at these things and is awesome.

Dear Washington Post

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Tennessee | Posted on 03-03-2008

Why in the hell are you giving Charlotte Allen valuable newspaper real estate in your paper? I just read her column called “We Scream, We Swoon, How Dumb Can We Be?” and all I have to say is that has to be the biggest crock of poo I’ve read in a long time.

When are mainstream media outlets going to abandon the burning stupids?

My teeth are clenched over this one. Seriously clenched.

This is the same woman that wrote back in 2005 “Why are Airline Flight Attendants so Awful … and ugly?

And, for balance, both conservatives and progressives are calling foul on this one.

A good point, WP, is that if you are wanting to increase your female readership (something you’ve been whining about) then running crap like this isn’t helping your cause.

Echidne breaks it down:

The Washington Post is a step ahead of you. Women are either dim or fickle. Probably tomorrow they’ll have a thoughtful column which shows that we could be both dim and fickle!

It’s going to be a long election year, isn’t it.
