Sam Cooke
Sam Cooke would be 77 years old this weekend. And there is a celebration this weekend.

If you don’t know Cooke, well, you should. Here he does Bob Dylan on Shindig.
Died too young, I’m telling you. Musical Genius if you ask me. You didn’t, but he was.
Here he is with Muhammad Ali.

Thank me later if you don’t know him. If you do, then just listen and know the way.

Hey! Feelin’ Better?
Katie in East TN ALSO has this bug, I think. So sad. She wants me to bring the camera, and a pickup truck.

One of the greatest singers who ever lived. My hero, my role model (except for tangling with gun-toting women in motels). Thanks for the videos.
It’s people like Gob who swallowed the “official version” of how my uncle died hook, line, and sinker that compelled me to relay what was really going with Sam around the time of his death. You probably believe the moon is made of cottage cheese as well.

And Sam Cooke made 77 in January, not this past weekend.
Umm, Sam’s Neph, I love Sam Cooke. Sorry about the age. Got it from a Memphis blog. It was a celebration of him.
Isn’t that good? Many people loved his music. I wasn’t born until ‘65 but his music was already around my house.
Love his singing.
Not a big deal with the birthdate, Coma. I’m actually a year younger than you, btw! It blew my mind to realize all the fans Sam had that are in their 20’s and 30’s, even though he died well before they were born.
I didn’t mean to be rough on Gob, either. I told myself before writing “Our Uncle Sam” that instead of being angry at those who don’t know Sam’s story, it’s more beneficial to educated the misinformed. Sorry to Gob if my comments got a little personal.
Sam Cooke’s life and legacy, and what subsequently happened to his life and legacy, are much to important to be swept under the rug. I’ll never apologize for my passion for the subject.
