Biden, Palin And Just The Facts Please

Posted by newscoma | Posted in Tennessee | Posted on 03-10-2008

The vice-presidential debate is over. I want to address one thing then we will head to FactCheck to look at what both candidates skewered inaccurately like moose kabobs on the grill in the Alaskan winter.

Dear pundits, please quit bringing up the “likability” factor when it comes to the debate. Dick Cheney is about as cuddly as a dead giant squid so just stop it. Al Gore was so cold during his vice-presidency he could have made snow cones just by willing them to be with his mind. We won’t even get into Dan Quayle.

The winks and gosh darnits were annoying. Biden was subdued but not ineffective and it looked like he might explode a couple of times, but he didn’t

The mistakes both candidates made can be seen at FactCheck.org which breaks it down on where Palin screwed up as well as Biden.

Other people disagree, but I feel that Biden did win the debate. Snap polls, which I think are the bane of public existence, are split depending on where you see them.

Now it’s McCain and Obama’s turn. There is too much going on in this country right now for both of them not to hit the ground running.

  2. Thanks for posting this. I intentionally turned off the computer to avoid ugliness last night and I truly appreciate the tone you set.

  3. What, ya got sumtin aginst MAVERICKS, dontcha know?

    :-)

  4. on the one hand, Palin seems to be emblematic of a rather romantic notion of politics – the ‘anyone-can-be-president’ cliche; on the other hand, i think the job of president inherently requires some seriously specialized skills …

also, as governor of a state whose entire economy is built on oil production, McCain wants her to head up projects for ‘energy independence’?

as others have said, the McCain campaign seems to rely of sideshow theatrics more and more. how long has this campaign season lasted anyway? it’s like trying to keep up with the plot from “Lost”.

  5. I saw the acronym VPILF, I think on CNN’s comments. Embracing our inner moron – that’s where we are in American politics. Should Obama run an ad about how big his … thumbs are? Or would that be too threatening?

We are seriously insane. Jokes are the only sane response.

Sarah Palin, affirmative action for beauty queens.

  6. Argh, no kidding. I was just talking with a relative about the folksy thing this week – he appreciates the “like me” thing, but I don’t want someone “like me.” I want someone 10x smarter than me, someone who can kick my ass with the facts and their understanding of them, someone who should be in office because they’re better qualified than 99.9% of the rest of us, not because they seem like they’d be fun to have a beer with.
