Argh, no kidding. I was just talking with a relative about the folksy thing this week - he appreciates the "like me" thing, but I don't want someone "like me." I want someone 10x smarter than me, someone who can kick my ass with the facts and their understanding of them, someone who should be in office because they're better qualified than 99.9% of the rest of us, not because they seem like they'd be fun to have a beer with.

I saw the acronym VPILF, I think on CNN's comments. Embracing our inner moron - that's where we are in American politics. Should Obama run an ad about how big his ... thumbs are? Or would that be too threatening?

We are seriously insane. Jokes are the only sane response.

Sarah Palin, affirmative action for beauty queens.

on the one hand, Palin seems to be emblematic of a rather romantic notion of politics - the 'anyone-can-be-president' cliche; on the other hand, i think the job of president inherently requires some seriously specialized skills ...

also, as governor of a state whose entire economy is built on oil production, McCain wants her to head up projects for 'energy independence'?

as others have said, the McCain campaign seems to rely of sideshow theatrics more and more. how long has this campaign season lasted anyway? it's like trying to keep up with the plot from "Lost".
