Burnout Paradise

Man, has advertising changed.

“I can confirm that the Obama campaign has paid for in-game advertising in Burnout,” Holly Rockwood, director of corporate communications at Electronic Arts, the game’s publisher, told me via email, noting that EA regularly allows ad placements in their online games. “Like most television, radio and print outlets, we accept advertising from credible political candidates,” she continued. “Like political spots on the television networks, these ads do not reflect the political policies of EA or the opinions of its development teams.”

Obama is advertising on an X-Box racing video game.

That, my friends, is political marketing outside the box.

  1. ok, so you pay for advertising on something that is played mostly by children. interesting. nifty idea, though. although most of the video game guys that are old enough to vote are probably not going to put the controller down long enough to go do just that.

i am sure i will get slammed for this comment.

    :)

  2. [...] It has to be a boycott. [...]

  3. In this case, it’s marketing inside the XBox!

  4. There’s also an Obama channel on Dish Network (Channel 73 for anyone who’s wondering … I’m sure they had to pay extra to get that low number on the dial), plus he’s buying a half hour of time on CBS. Hey, why not? It shows he’s a creative thinker, if nothing else.

Yes, I’ve watched the Obama channel … It’s his bio from the Democratic Convention and campaign ads.

  5. I can’t wait until McCain debuts his deal with Namco that turns all the Pacman heads into McCain heads.
