Cruelty To Animals

This dog was found chained without food or water in Hoots yesterday. The owner of the dog allegedly just moved, leaving the animals tied up.

The local police department also found another dog chained and seven puppies.

More than angry.

Needless to say, if folks aren’t outraged by this, they should be. The police captain has taken charges out against the woman on a cruelty to animals charge. He was spitting mad as well.

I’m out of town later but I called one of the local vets who is going to check the puppies’ health. I plan to head over there when I get back in town.

If you aren’t going to take care of a pet, then don’t get one.

Front page next week? You bet.

This is infuriating. I hope the police find the person who did this, and I hope the dogs are OK.

There has been an arrest so that’s good. I just hope that the woman who was arrested gets the book thrown at her.

  3. Lesley says:

That is disgusting. I hope you’ll publish her name and the details of her crime so that she’ll understand that she’s done something wrong. Too many people simply don’t think that anything done to an animal is cruel; that they have no brains, feelings, value. I would love for her to learn otherwise.

Front page in next edition of the paper!

These things always break my heart so much. I’m glad she got arrested and I hope they do totally throw the book at her.

The dog in the pic looks like probably a very sweet dog too. I hate people that do this stuff so much.

    It is disgusting beyond belief.

What’s even more disgusting is how common this is. I’ve had several reports from the Humane Society about how folks who are facing foreclosure or eviction have just left their property and the animals they can no longer afford.

We’re lucky if they just LEAVE the animals. A lot of cases are like this where the animals are left without food or water. In yet other cases the animals are shot and left dead on the floor.

Pets are the unsung victims of the current housing downturn.

This is a story from back in January about the problem.

  7. omg doesn’t even begin to cover it. do you mind if i crosspost the info to my rescue group?

please keep us posted about the health of these babies. i could just cry.

  8. newscoma says:

Please do, Christina. The suspect’s name is Teresa Martin-Gardner. Octoberfest is tomorrow in Martin, but I’m going to see if I can see the above dog’s puppies and if they are all right.
Kat, you are so right. It’s disgusting and I’m furious.

Our neighbors acquired a dog like that when they bought their house. The lady just left him chained in the back yard and told them that she didn’t want him anymore at her new house. They spent a fortune on that dog and re-named him Lucky, a year later he was a beautiful dog again. When they divorced the wife kept him, but the whole neighborhood misses him.

  11. That breaks my heart. How can you look at an animal like that, day after day? Anyone who would treat an animal like a used up piece of trash should be put in jail. And BTW, not to get all political but Barack Obama believes in stronger penalties for animal cruelty.

  12. I knew I shouldn’t have looked. I hope there’s a happy ending with these dogs and that you’ll keep us all posted. Don’t tell Mabel about this.

  13. Dave Parker says:

    Sickening. Absolutely sickening.

There’s a beautiful golden lab down the road from me that has been chained to a tree I am assuming her entire life. Granted, she has food and water, but I never see her off the chain with her owner…and she looks so sad. It kills me to drive by. I want to stop and check on her, but I’m afraid I might get shot.

Yeah, The Complete Shakespeare. Hard cover, right upside her vile, filthy head.

  15. if everyone leaving a comment would take a few minutes and drop a note to the presiding judge on the case, it would make a huge impact on sentencing.

and to dave parker, i’m sure she is sad. dogs do not make good loners. instinct tells them they need to be part of a pack. other dogs, humans, whatever, that baby needs some love and attention. perhaps you could be the one to offer that to her…
