Responding To John As I Can’t Post There
John, I tried to log in to respond but every password I used was rejected so I’ll do it here.
I want to take this one first.
Newscoma has a slightly different take and seems to think that the Duke thing is “muddying the waters“. So I guess if you don’t like the speaker, or the topic, it is okay to threaten peoples lives and deny them service. They have no rights because you disagree with them. The issue is not that they are being targeted for their race, but for their political ideology.
Could you link to where people’s lives where threatened. I looked for it and couldn’t find it. The threats I read were on Duke’s website. What other confirmation do you have on this? Just asking. Also, everyone has rights and you know I advocate for that constantly. But I guess that only matter if we agree.
And yes Newscoma, the meeting was being held in “secret” to the best it could be under the circumstances, but the location was leaked to the press by someone. I also get from the tone of her post that it makes a difference if I was at the meeting as a member of the audience or as a member of the media. Quite frankly, I am sick and tired of liberals like Newscoma telling me it is a problem if I was there as a member of the audience.
As I’ve met you, I was surprised by you attending. I know you are “sick” of folks like me but I don’t think the issues I brought up were invalid. My opinion is just as valid as yours.
I wrote:
No one is saying folks can’t go see Duke if they don’t want to.
I always thought we could agree to disagree, but I’m still not backing down on Duke. We’ve been able to do that in the past. As I said in my post, I was shocked that you would go to a meeting with Duke heading it up. The meeting was posted on this website, incidentally, on Nov. 5, 2008.
Not because I hate blacks, Jews or even liberals, but because I am not going to let anyone tell me what meeting I can and cannot go to. If you have a problem with their viewpoint, then debate it, don’t attempt to silence it.
I never said you hated Blacks, Jews or even liberals. You know that. I know you are a big fan of Cohen. Not one time did that come up did I say you hated anyone (except your extreme dislike for me right now). I did imply that Duke does and I own that because history supports that. He was a grand wizard to the KKK, John. Those are your words up there, not mine. Never meant to silence you or I wouldn’t haven’t put it up on my blog in the first place. Silencing you would not have been mentioning it at all. I would love to have posted at your place but BCR won’t let me post my comment under either of my passwords there so I had to do it here. I’m did not tell you to go or not to go and my post didn’t say that. It said this:
John, he’s been in the public eye for years. There was no violation of rights here. Coverage was there. People, unfortunately chose to go and that’s their right. But for pete’s sake, of all people, don’t make it into a constitution issue which it clearly is not.
It is a period of time regarding race in this country where we are trying to heal the divide but to muddy up the issue of denial of constitutional rights, which didn’t not happen, when, it was indeed just simply about race.
No where does those words tell you what to do. Questioning is one thing, telling you what to do, which I would never do and you know that, is another. You took that out of context. You also know that I’m one of those “liberals” that tries to engage with everyone as fairly as you claim to at BCR. And to your credit, you have. I’ve seen that.
Come on, John, you know better than that.
As for Thaddeus Matthews. I don’t think I’ve ever linked to him much less read him. But I do read you.
So, we’ve both said our peace. You wrote, I rebutted, you gave me a butt-chewing and I responded.
I guess it’s all good. It’s okay to agree to disagree John.
But don’t put words in my mouth.
Sorry you are sick of my opinions. We all have one.

The death threats were reported by channel 3 in Memphis. It was the day they were removed from the Whispering Whatever meeting place. See if you can look up the video on Channel 3’s site. I will link it back if I get a minute to do so and I can find it.
I can also tell you that John doesn’t dislike many folks and I doubt you would be included in that list either.
Keep up the good work and it is OK to be white. It is also OK to be proud to be white, black or whatever color you may be. Being proud doesn’t make you a racist it makes you accepting of who you are.
Austin, thanks for responding.

[...] Don’t Miss the Funny Posted on November 9, 2008 by Aunt B. Poor Newscoma has accidentally embroiled herself in a mess by pointing out that any meeting of folks dedicated to the preservation of the white race with David Duke as a speaker is probably racist (see here and here). [...]
in my experience, when humans agree to disagree, the intelligent ones make friends. respecting and understanding another person’s viewpoint, whether you agree with it or not, is, i think, the basis for human relations in a democratic society.
that said, many moons ago several of my little hippie friends and i took off to form a silent protest at one of david duke’s speeches. i must say, he was an excellent speaker. i didn’t agree with the content of his speech, but i give him credit for his intelligence and way with words. now someone somewhere will totally mis-read that, so re-read it carefully. the entire group held conversation for hours after our little protest. the general consensus was, while we were appalled at the subject matter, we were surprised at the level of charisma and intelligence shown that day. maybe we were all expecting screaming skin-heads or a bunch of inbreeders, i don’t know, but we did agree that when that level of obvious genius is combined with the same, if not higher level of hatred, the result is a very scary thing.
however, this is America. and our constitution states that he has the right to say whatever he wants to.
so i agree to disagree with him. but i don’t want to be his friend.
Good point Christinajade. I have no problem with you protesting any speech made by anyone because that is your right. Do not label me because I want to attend and listen to the speech of anyone because that is my right. I am glad that we can all agree to disagree sometimes. I think if we spent more time talking to eachother than we do calling eachother names and forcing our thoughts on what is felt in the hearts of others then we might get along. I am the worlds worst at that last statement. I just get a little frustrated at times and I do get sick of being called a racist because I would never deny anyone their right no matter what their color.
