Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.

Joseph Ambrose, an 86-year-old World War I veteran, attends the dedication day parade for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He is holding the flag that covered the casket of his son, who was killed in the Korean War.
Thanks to my grandfather and my father on this very special day.

It doesn’t bear on the importance of the day or the picture, but something’s wrong with the dates. 86-y-o veteran photographed in 2005 was born a year after WWI ended. So Wikipedia has it wrong – I’m guessing he’s a WWII vet.
beautiful post.
thanks to my father and his father. thanks to the significant other, his father, and his father before him.
every day should be Veteran’s Day
I loved that photo when I went to that Wiki entry today. Made me want to hug a veteran.
wow, that made me cry…
