Lester Hudson At Thompson Boling Arena

On Friday, UT Martin’s Skyhawks opened their season against, quite honestly, an inferior team.

And I got to see Lester Hudson play and I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. Tonight, we will see how he does against the Vols in Knoxville.

Let me tell you, Hudson seems like a hell of a nice guy but that’s now what I want to talk about.

I want to talk about this:

The Tennessee men’s basketball team will play its second game of the regular season tonight, but UT may not face a better player all year. When the Volunteers host UT-Martin at Thompson-Boling Arena at 6 p.m., they will witness the skills and the legend of Lester Hudson, the Skyhawks’ 6-foot-2 guard from Memphis who has already set NCAA records and leaves fans shaking their heads

“He’s not going to beat us by himself, unless he can score 90 points on us,” (Tyler) Smith said. “But we’re look at it as a team goal to stop this man.”

Heh. Everyone should take Hudson seriously. Squirrel Queen has been covering sports for 23 years and she is rarely impressed.

Let me just say, if she says he is the real deal you better just mark that down in your journal and know that it is so.

If you get to see Hudson play this year, it’s like drinking in a cool drink of water on a hot summer day. He is magnificent.

How will the Skyhawks fair against the Vols? I’m not sure. The team does have some other weapons including Marquis Weedle.

But I have a feeling that some jaws are going to drop tonight in Knoxville when they get a taste of Lesterpalooza.

And, on another note, Nashville blogger and UT Martin alumnus Stephen Yeargin has built a website for Hudson here.
