Newsies 98 Years Ago

This photo is called Newsies at Skeeter Branch.

Isn’t amazing how, because this picture was taken in 1910 by photographer Lewis W. Hine, how much things have changed. The photo was taken in regards to Child Labor Laws and as the link suggests, you can see these boys taking on the mannerisms of men.

Another look at news history as well. I often talk about changing times and here is photograph confirmation.

Sharing Is Caring (4)

  1. I think you mean “taken in 1910.” Otherwise it’s an amazing glimpse into our retro-styled future!

  2. Thanks Kate and it’s fixed to the original date.
    Bad Brain burst this a.m.

  3. Ooh ooh,

I get to be the first to make the obligatory caustic comment on how it’s now adults who seek to emulate the mannerisms of the young?

  4. I was just satirically reading aloud to my daughter my father’s Boy Scout Handbook, copyright 1942. It charged each scout with protection of the accident-prone young under five and old over fifty, who can’t fend for themselves. Smoking at 10, geezers at 50!
