Ice Storm
It’s been busy in Hoots due to the hellacious ice storm of Aught Nine. We fared better than our northern neighbors (just ten miles north in Fulton, Ky there has been a state of emergency declared because there just wasn’t any power. We heard that mail won’t be running in Fulton County.)
It was no picnic, but it could have been much worse. According to the local Emergency management dudes here in Weakley, at the beginning of the storm, there were about 8000 folks without power. By yesterday evening, it was only roughly 200 in the county of Hoots central. Emergency shelters were set up for many people in the area for those who had lost power all over northwest Tennessee and western Kentucky. Lake and Obion counties still have roughly 11,500 folks without power and they are saying they may be without electricity for several days.
Needless to say, we have been running around like chickens sans our heads. The main roads here seem to be all right and everyone was pitching in to move fallen trees.
Snow I like. Ice, well, not so much.

The last picture sort of reminds me of The Lorax.
We will see what today brings. I think it’s going to melt and, as I said, we fared so much better than other places did, even those just a few miles away.
Right now, it’s just about keeping people out of the cold if we can. Then folks whose homes were damaged can survey what needs to be done next.

Yeah, this has been a particularly rough winter for us too. I want to appreciate it, but it’s been very challenging.
