Random Political Thoughts

I’ve been thinking a great deal about the differences between political ideology and political realities.

It’s a conundrum when you get right down to it. I know idealistically where I stand in my belief system and what I want to achieve on an individual level. In any ideology, you have to have your goals and methods to define the mission. Then goals and objectives have to be aligned with action.

I haven’t really been posting about politics much lately. I’m not bored with in it but I’m also not really seeing much happen. I mean, I know a kazillion bills have been introduced and I’ve been sorting through them. I sincerely wish that our legislators would quite being drama queens and get out of the business of telling folks what they can or cannot do with their bodies.

I’m thinking through some of my thoughts right now about it all.

Amen. We have much bigger fish to fry.

One of the ways I channel my passion for less talk and more work is directly funding my priorities. Today’s MTSU poll says a majority of Tennesseans feel the state doesn’t do enough to fund education as a top priority. An equal amount of people support a state income tax as oppose it, something that would achieve funding that priority and more. Rather than waste $200 this year giving to promises made by either party, I’m giving directly to teachers with specific requests for teaching materials for their high poverty classrooms. That one donation will reach kids faster and better than any party can deliver at this moment, and when they want my money and see that I only fund results, maybe they’ll come bearing result oriented requests with built in accountability. Until then, they can go make a few stupid ham sandwhichs and sell them to a room of elderly people to fund their ridiculous mailers.
