Needing Some Help With Puppy Adoption

The puppies are nearly five weeks old. The commune is becoming entirely too small to handle 15 dogs and our lives are no longer our own.

I have to tell you, I love each and every one of these guys. I saw them born and have watched them being a little pack of Puppy Hooligans.

Alas, it’s time for them to find a home.

We have had five people who wanted one have to back out due to personal reasons, which happens.

Zoey has been adopted and will meet her new family on April 20th.

I do have some folks saying they will come and look at the pups for possible adoption this week. However, I’m going to have to do the unthinkable (and the most realistic thing) and probably take them to a N0 Kill rescue shelter and I am putting an ad into the paper this week to give the remaining puppies away. When we adopted Pinks, we had no idea that she was pregnant and we took her to get the vet, we were told that she was. This is the first time in my adult life I’ve been around the birth and growth of new puppies. It’s been exciting, but Homer and I already have five dogs total.

Now, Homer is adopting one of the black puppies who they family has named Arthur Guinness (formally known as Blackie)

All of these pups are ready for a home, first come, first serve.

They are very sweet.

And very much a handful when you have 10 of them. Man, they crack me up.

We call this one Handsome.

We have several pups which are white and have black patches on their eyes.

I call this one Gulager.

Anyway, if you are eager to adopt a puppy, the time is now. We have even sought legislative help from Minority Whip Mark Maddox. He’s not a very good puppy pimp, but he did his best.

And, Mabel and Jura have taken to hiding from the pups. They are on the steps, but the symbolism of this photo looks like they are in jail.

So, this week we are going to aggressively look at homes for the puppies with folks we know.

It’s sad really. I like them, I just can’t keep them. So, dear Internet, if you can spread the word that a blogger needs some help putting pups in good homes, please let me know.

Craigslist? I love those puppies, and my son wants another dog, but we don’t have time to train a puppy or we would be gay-polygamously marrying marrying every single one.

Thanks, that’s a great idea. If I lived on a farm, I would keep them all. ;)
    Alas, no farm.

Please, Please do not advertise free puppies.
There are many sick people out there that do dog fighting, and they love free puppies and small dogs. They are thrown into the pit for the fighting dogs to tear apart, sort of a pre-game show.
Rather a no-kill shelter where adoptive people are at least checked out.

Actually, we are screening the new parents. Most of the people we are talking to we know or organizations we know. Those that we don’t will have a background check.

My sister will cut someone if they even think of hurting these babies.

I pity the fool that hurts a puppy.

I’m not sure how much you know about pups and if you’ve covered this I apologize- but please keep them in their pack until they’re at least 7 weeks old- idealy more:) They are much more confident and ready for the world that way. I’m sure their mom is worn out so make sure she has lots of time to herself too.

We thought of that and they will be seven weeks old when we take them to the rescue shelter. It’s been a bit disheartening as we have searched for homes for them and apparently there are so many to adopt.

It’s kind of breaking our hearts as we adore them and we just want them to have good, safe homes.

I feel for you guys so much. When my last batch was born, they ALL had homes except the one I was planning to keep… up until the time came for them to go, and every one of those homes backed out for various reasons except for one (and in that case, I had reservations to begin with because of the adult’s inexperience with puppies, and sure enough they wound up giving him away to someone else and I was heartsick).

This is why I still have the four young’ns, and I can’t even imagine how that would have all turned out had I had the rather extreme number of puppies Pinky showered upon you.

Will be thinking good thoughts & good karma for every one of yours to get the best home possible.

    ok, posting this! :)

and good points about the whole people-being-mean-to-puppies thing. there are some seriously sick peeps who will raise them just to be bait dogs.

which makes me want to do horrible, unthinkable things to those humans.

Man!!! If Dad wanted a little puppy on the farm, I’d be all over getting one! I wish I could adopt one of those little cuties!! Good luck, I hope you find good homes for them!
