Main Street
There is a Main Street in Hoots, but it’s not where I sometimes sit and watch the traffic go by, which is downtown in the midst of several buildings known as the Historic District.
I am constantly teased about liking to sit on the bench outside of the newspaper because my office does not have any windows and a dose of fresh air and Vitamin D is sometimes necessary so I don’t become a vampire. Usually, someone will pass by and wave, there is more foot traffic then there was roughly a year ago because the downtown area has had a face lift. It’s rather quaint and on a sunny day, the top of buildings, some of them 100 years old, are always painted in a lovely blue.
Last week, a young couple walked down the street. They were a couple of kids I didn’t know and you could tell they were involved in an intimacy that comes with new lovers. I watched them, the way he ran the back of his hand gently up her arm. She gave him several shy, hidden glances when he would do this and I assume his light touch made her shiver by the look on her face. They caught each other’s eyes occasionally and they would both smile as they caught each other’s attention.
He touched her hair. She let him.
He opened her car door and she sat down and he gently cupped her chin, just smiling. I only saw them for a few, scant moments.
I smiled as they drove off and in my heart, I wish them well.
I headed back into my windowless office for a phone call.
Life goes on.

You just made my day of the good. Thank you for that.
