Another One Bites The Dust

Umm, that would be me.

Well, I’m taking a few days to think things through. I have joined the gazillion journalists who have been downsized.

Thanks to everyone who was so supportive yesterday when I got the news. I am not surprised (heck, I’ve seen the writing on the wall for about a year) but it is shocking nonetheless.

I want to thank everyone who I worked with over the past five and a half years. You guys were so wonderful. I want to thank the blogosphere, who held my hand yesterday as I worked through much of the emotions that go with something like this. My former bosses were amicable. My former staff was lovely.

I wish them all well.

It came down to money. I was a casualty in the ongoing battle for the survival of newspapers, for lack of a better term.

I don’t know what the next step will be as I’ve been talking to people around the state for a while because I anticipated this but nothing concrete has come through thus far, but I’ll be okay. I am fortunate that I have a lot of good people in my life. Many people that know and love me are aware that I haven’t been necessarily happy in awhile. I have to say, this job was one of the hardest I’ve ever had as I started it under very odd circumstances, and of course it ended that way as well. I’ll tell you about it someday.

A door closes. Another one will open.

It’s still hard, but things always happen for a reason. Bear with me for the next bit as I get my bearings.

You may call me UnemployedComa for the time being.

So so sorry to hear to hear about your current dislocation. We just finished our relo for hubby’s new job, so I know and feel your pain. Follow your bliss, life is too short to be unhappy!

I have a fallen tree that needs cutting up. Put on your flannel and come help me. Free meals and lodging and meager wages, but I’d appreciate the help.

Seriously, you’re too talented to stay unemployed for too long.

Like I said earlier, I’m rooting for you. I’ve been un- or under-employed for much longer than I hoped this past year. I remain unreasonably optimistic that doors are going to be opening for you, me, and others like us soon.

If you need to bitch over a virtual beer, feel free to contact me. I’m in your corner.

So very sorry to hear this. Hopefully something great is just around the corner. AND hopefully the world will wake up and realize what we cannot afford to lose — journalists.

    And no, I’m not kidding.

‘Coma, I just saw this. I know you’ll do this as classy as anyone can, but, damn, I’m sorry to hear it.

I prefer the term funemployment. I have faced the lay off saw three times in my career. The first one was the hardest. The last one was a blessing. Change is good. FWIW, I am still trying to figure out what to be when I grow up. Hang in there.
