The photo was this:
This was sent to me recently by another legislative staffer who was offended by it, as I am.
I talked to my local rep, Mark Maddox about it, and described the picture to him at a recent fund raising event. I think he was as appalled as I was. I was going to post it last week but there was a death in my family and I had to think about it.
Because it made me mad.
But, you know, people need to know that this stuff is going on. I would be just as angry if a democratic staffer had sent it.
Dammit, Tennessee, haven’t we moved past this kind of crap. I’m serious.
Leaders and their staffs need to be just that. LEADERS! And they have done a pretty suspect job this year if you ask me.
We live in a world of uncertainty and a lot of hurt. In Tennessee, it’s more important to pass dog bills than the budget. But, I guess we can find the time to send out junk, racist emails. Jeez.
Racist imagery matters.
I decided to release it because we need to think about our actions. How does this kind of behavior effect our children? It’s just ridiculous and it’s wrong.
I expect better of anyone elected to position that my tax dollars pay. I guess I give folks too much credit.
Yes I am on a soapbox and I’m not getting off of the damned thing.
Update: The email I received says the staffer is Sherri Goforth, who works for Diane Black.

Christian Grantham talks to Ms. Goforth, who admits she sent the email.
When I asked her if she understood the controversial nature of the photo, Goforth would only say she felt very bad about accidentally sending it to the wrong list. When I gave her a second chance to address the controversial nature of the email, she again repeated that she only felt bad about sending it to the wrong list of people.
I sent it to the wrong list of people? Huh.

I’m glad you posted this nonsense. It will give me another chance to reach White people and tell them how they are being manipulated by the controlled American power structure.
Why is it when a White person seeks to protect their civil rights, they are instantly attacked using the Marxist technique of ridicule, and for being uneducated?
#1 Isn’t it interesting that when Whites tried to attack Blacks as being uneducated in their fight for civil rights, this only garnered them more support? The Black gains status for being uneducated, as in, it is the fault of White society they are so. But when a White man is uneducated, he is to be mocked? This is more proof White people need their own society to be safe and enjoy freedom from this new vicious form of bigotry.
#2 The Founder Fathers, ALL of them, even the abolitionists, would be considered White supremacists today. So would most of the great thinkers of Western civilization. So why when a representative image of White “racists” is offered, it is never Locke, or Dunn, or Voltaire, or Jefferson, or Madison? Why is it always clowns like this, or at best maybe a Nazi like Hitler?

Well, I’m just now catching up on this story since I couldn’t view it properly when on my iPod yesterday.
I have to say that I’m in full agreement about the horrific nature of the original email and really have issues with it being sent by a State employee on the State’s time.
And I’m reading through the comments of other people who are offended. And then I got to the one where CaptainKona says he “fixed it” and there’s a new photo replacing four of the presidents with various “slur” photos. (Bozo, Hillary) The last was a replacement of Bush with Hitler.
Now I am sick and damned tired of the last 8 years. I’m not a Bush fan–in fact I’m far from it. But you cannot tell me that the Bush-Hitler meme isn’t as destructive and racist and hate-filled as any of the “Icky-ooo Obama is BLAAAACK” stuff that the folks here (me included) DON’T like.

I am native born Tennesseean who happens to be black and who, due to the circumstances of my parents, has not lived in Tn. since I was five. Even so, I have always been fine with telling people I’m a transported “ridge runner” from Nashville. I have to say that between the Ford election campaign and now Ms. Goforth’s actions ans Sen. Black’s non-reaction (a letter of reprimand means next to nothing unless you get a slew of them), I am now becoming embarrassed to mention my birthplace. In my travels back to my homestate I have met quite a number of outstanding people both black and white, but you are letting the sorry few give the whole state a bad name. Think of it as being like when the bad actions of a few are used as an excuse to stereotype a whole race of people. Same premis if you continue to let it go on

c) the stats you cite only prove that hate crimes are reported more in California, not that there is more racism. When you hail from Lynchville, USA I would be more savvy when using hate crime reportings.
d) comparing a state to a region is bit much. each state wildly differed in agencies reporting and the definition of “hate crime”. states also wildly differ in urban centers, population density, and size of police agencies. so to point to the number of hate crimes reported in the raw in the most populous state as proof of anything in terms of institutionalized, closet racism in the South vs. the West or North is both ahistorical, and to quote you: “fucktard”ed.

What strikes me in this Tennessee case and the So Carolina Rusty DePass incident, is that no bloggers or blog commentors seem to mention the casual disdain these officials show for 30 – 40% of their constituents. Can you imagine an official condoning a comment dehumanizing any other demographic comprising that large a portion of their state? And we no longer have a problem with official racism in this country?
Do we know if she created the image? If not, did she get it from someone higher up the TN RNC and that is why she has not been fired?

This is the most base form of Racism. A racist act, not viewed as such by the perpetrator, means the individual’s racist nature is a foundation of their upbringing. They don’t have the value system to recognize that the act is born from Hate.

Now it is time to deal with the person and punishment must be harsh.
The employer can attempt to apologize for this, but the right words will be difficult to find. But, they must come and not sound like a Hallmark Greeting Card.

I never would have even seen the pic of President Ospooka had Captainkona not been a hit on a totally unrelated search. It was a clever photo array and it made me laugh. Just like “President Clinton”‘s frame displaying a photo of Hillary. I sent both pics to hundreds of e pals.
