Dear Joe Brown

As more of the story comes from last night of what Joe Brown said in the Memphis Charter Commission meeting, I’d like to offer him this.

I love this country but you have to love your country like an adult loves somebody, not like a child loves its Mommy. And right-wing Republicans tend to love America like a child loves its Mommy, where everything Mommy does is okay. But adult love means you’re not in denial, and you want the loved one to be the best they can be.

Sen. Al Franken

Smart City Memphis has more from last night. (Updated to add Enclave’s take on this issue.)

That statement from Franken goes to BOTH sides of the political aisle. Let’s just be real about it, engagement in the political process and critical thinking scares the pants off of folks and you proved it last night because your actions and words were pretty clear about it. Criticism isn’t a bad thing because it’s not YOUR government, it’s everyone’s.

Mr. Brown, Michael Silence is more eloquent than I am and he’s giving you the Word.

It’s an issue of a public official disrespecting someone active in his community. And it’s an issue of disrespecting a forum where people voice their opinions.

Jeez, are bloggers going to have to do it for you Mr. Brown? Just seems to me you were afraid of Steven Ross.

And you should be.
