Ostrich is a bit tastier than catfish, which near as I can tell tastes mostly like salt and grease. Goes well with an excess of beer, however.

I don’t know – when you’re a kid, is an ostrich any stranger, really, than like a horse? Or a camel? Or one of those weird bizarre creepy miniature Shetland Ponies?

I think as adults odd things like ostriches are odd because we rarely see them, while we see horses all the time. But to a little kid, to whom everything is new, one big scary animal is pretty much like another one…

I was a tiny short child. The ostrich’s legs looked a bit long for my wee self.

Didn’t Johnny Cash get attacked by an ostrich? Remember, I’m the girl with an irrational fear of catfish. (Although I would rather ride an ostrich than a giant killer catfish. Heh.

If my parents had taken me someplace where a kid could ride an ostrich and refused to let me, I would have had nightmares and resentment, and that unloved feeling in the black recesses of my damaged little psyche.
