Nashville Start Up Weekend

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I’ve been following Twitter this weekend as several twitterers are at Nashville’s Start Up Weekend. I am following it carefully and am enjoying the enthusiasm they are providing.

And I read this at Regular Geek:

As you can see, people have faith in each other. People have faith that companies and startups will figure it all out. For the startups that are listening, just tighten your belts and run as lean as you can. This is the type of time that separates the wheat from the chaff. Those who can not survive may be able to sell off their assets in order to start something new. As Steven said, “are we going to feel pain?” Absolutely, but there is a lot to learn from pain. You learn not to do the same things. Personally, I think we will see some interesting ideas start to appear, and they will be created cheaply. Innovations in technology will continue to appear, but consumer prices will drop in order to stay competitive and affordable.

There are a lot of people working on change. We just might not be seeing it.

I’m encouraged.

Makes me really wish I was there.

R. Neal on Broadband Access

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Maybe I do have something more than nothing. Actually, it’s not me that has it. No exclusives, huge news from the ‘coma here, but R. Neal does on Broadband Access and the pros and cons of what’s being bantered about the state on rural accessibility.

He has links to the details over at Facing South.

Go ahead. Get over there.

Pshaw Gets Philisophical

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Pshaw has about a thousand blogs. He writes this post at Kidnapped by Aliens:

The New York Times recently published a story called “Flame First, Think Later”. The story is about the psychology in all of us that gives us the ability to speak more freely in e-mail or blogs than we would when speaking face-to-face with people.

I thought it was share-worthy.

WWLD

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

As I have been taken under the wing of the fab Lynnster, I’ve been learning a lot.

Most prominently that I have the technical skills of a rabid raccoon with Altzheimers, but I digress. I have been trying to learn things  regarding the innertubes, but I’m not always so successful.

However, recently, I saw a comment that Lynnster wrote for someone else asking questions (I forget where) crediting Knox Jon about her new use of SharpReader, crediting him with the info.

WWLD (What would Lynnster Do) has become the mantra of many of us in the Tennessee area, so I went and checked it out. I wrote about this yesterday, but John H. commented wanting more information about it.

Well, let’s just say that I have the worst luck getting thingamabobs to work. But this one was so much better and now I have a news reader that is very user friendly and I like it. Everyone is loaded in from the weekend (the folks from Sista’s Birthday Bash), blogs I like to read nationwide and even some local stuff (like when my newspaper loads the site.)

So thanks to the smart guys in the state for giving me this little gift. I actually have a reader that is working for me. Installation was easy, it seems to work very well and it uploads new posts from my favorite sites almost immediately.

So … umm … cool.

Hype Or Not

Monday, February 5th, 2007

A world with a $100 PC?

Maybe some of you tech folks out there can tell me if this actual piece of equipment is hype or real.
